Frequently Asked Questions

How does psychotherapeutic intervention work?

Therapy is a collaborative journey where we explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. By integrating psychodynamic and evidence-based approaches, we help you uncover deep-seated patterns and develop tools for meaningful transformation.

What are the fees and insurance options?

The overall cost of therapy varies by individual and insurance coverage. API accepts most Blue Cross Blue Shield, UHC, UMR, Iowa Medicaid (Iowa Total Care, Wellpoint/Amerigroup, Molina), and Aetna plans. If you have concerns about affording therapy, there may be options to meet your needs.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

We offer both in-person sessions at our Bettendorf office, as well as secure online video sessions for clients located in both Iowa and Illinois. Both formats provide the same depth of therapeutic presence and efficacy.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Your care is protected by HIPAA. There are a few legal exceptions; including immediate safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, or court orders. Intake documentation will explore this in depth, and you are encouraged to ask questions before and during treatment.

How long are appointments, and how long can I expect to be in therapy?

Standard sessions typically last 60 minutes, though we can adjust this time if needed to better suit your needs. The duration of your treatment journey depends entirely on your personal objectives. While every path is unique, many clients begin to feel substantial progress within approximately 20 weekly sessions.

How do I book or reschedule an appointment?

Booking can be done directly through our online portal. For rescheduling, we request at least 24 hours notice to avoid cancellation fees. This allows us to offer the time to other clients in need.

What can I expect in our first session?

The initial consultation is a safe space for us to get to know each other. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your history, and your goals. It's also an opportunity for you to see if our therapeutic style feels right for you.

Do you provide emotional support animal documentation, disability letters, or court services?

We do not provide documentation for emotional support animals, documentation of disabilities, or assessment for disabilities. While treatment by a licensed provider can be helpful in the court’s determination for disability, they often rely on their own providers assessments for determination. Court testimony is possible depending on individual needs; however, the fee for these services is not typically covered by insurance.

Who should I contact if I am in immediate crisis?

If you need immediate help, call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or go to the nearest emergency room.
